GOD’S WORKMANSHIP (Ephesians 2:10)
A. INTRODUCTION:
1. Every Christian for that matter believers need to know who they are in Christ
-Also need to know the spiritual, physical and even material levels we ought to operate once we commit our lives to the Lord Jesus Christ.
-Furthermore the believer needs to stay at that level to ensure blessings and also to be a source of blessing to as many as come into contact with him/her and signpost them the Lord Jesus Christ.
2. Background of the book of Ephesians points to a period in Ephesus where spiritual battle was raging as it is today:
- Fear and intimidation in both the spiritual and physical realm was rife
-The introduction of the Glorious Gospel of the Lord Jesus called for the question whether the impact of the gospel was enough to undo or overpower the kingdom of evil in the city.
- The situation draws a strong parallel to our situation pertaining today.
-St Paul inspired the Christians in Ephesus that they are no ordinary people but have been the result of God’s workmanship and need not fear but stay strong.
B. THE TEXT THEREFORE RAISES FOUR MAJOR QUESTIONS:
1. What does it mean to be God’s Workmanship?
You would appreciate the meaning well when you know what happens in a factory. Out of undefined raw materials, say agricultural products could be turned into something wonderful and edible at the end of the production line like chocolate.
-Or think about a porter who makes images from clay or wax as in the case of Madam Tussaudes in London..... Great!
-Or think about a designer of clothes, an architect or a designer or even a computer programmer..., wonderful things are produced at the end of their hands!
It is more uplifting to realise and embrace the thought that the Great God who created the universe is a greater designer in a more significant way!!!
Ephesians 2:10-11 emphasised to the believers at Ephesus and for that matter every Christian that we are God’s workmanship, created unto good works! That is to grant hope to:
a) People without hope for this life and the future
b) The spiritually bankrupt and liable to all attacks from the devil
c) Subject to the dictates of this world, their flesh and the devil
d) Living in fear of self and others! (Ephesians 2:1-6)
2) When does one become God’s workmanship?
The verse 11-21 provides the answers.....
-When you take conscious steps in accepting and living for the Lord Jesus Christ in our lives.
-What’s the result? You are no longer stranger to God or excluded from the covenants of promise-Verses 12, 13&19
3) How does one become God’s workmanship?
-Through his abundant mercies-verses 4-6
-He is rich in mercy to turn the scales around.
-Through the abundant grace (unmerited favour), He raises us from defeated and hopeless position into His elevated presence to perfect that which concerns us!
-By the blood of Christ we became the beneficiaries of the Passover lamb-which is Christ Jesus
-He (Jesus Christ) who had no sin died that we may be partakers of the heavenly glory! Praise the Lord!
4) What is the result of becoming God’s workmanship?
-The first result of becoming God’s workmanship is to produce good works- verse 7
-This implies godly lives full of his presence no matter the circumstance
-The good works also refer to bearing the fruit of the spirit in your life- Galatians 5:22-23
King David realised this and noted that ‘’I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139:13-17.
The result of God’s workmanship is also evidenced in the testimony of St Paul before King Agrippa- Acts 26:29.
Paul made known the depth, breadth and height of the results of God’s workmanship in his life and anyone who genuinely gives his or her life to Christ Jesus.
You can also be part of the same experience of God’s workmanship if you yield unto Him!
C. CONCLUSION
-Believers have been wonderfully made by a great designer-God
-That which was destroyed by Adam has been recreated through Christ
-As a result we become His workmanship- Created, programmed to produce good works!
-Get a lift in your spirit by perceiving or understanding that there is important truth of His Salvation-programming for you!
WHY? -because of His riches in mercy
HOW? -through the matchless work at Calvary Cross- our Passover. Even the second Adam was introduced to destroy all the works of the enemy.
GOD RICHLY BLESS YOU
